Shunfeng International Clean Energy Limited, a HKSE listed renewable energy investment and Independent Power Producer company, acquired Suntech in 2014. The company’s Suntech Energy Solutions division completed Google’s 1.6 MW solar installation in June 2007.
Dr Shi Zhengrong (born c. 1963[20]) was the founder,[21] chairman and chief executive officer of Suntech Power. He is a graduate of the University of NSW’s School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering. Suntech Power still has its roots embedded deep withint the orgnisation with many UNSW graduates working with Suntech.

2001 | Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. was founded
2002 | Suntech initiated its first 10MW production line. This production activity equalled China’s PV cell production from the previous 4 years
2005 | Suntech launched its initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange. This is a turning point in Suntech’s global business strategy and global product awareness.
2006 | Suntech acquired MSK Corporation, one of Japan’s largest PV manufacturers, and top ranked enterprise in the BIPV industry. This acquistion increased Suntech’s production capacity to 300MW.
2008 | Suntech reaches an annual production capacity of 1 GW.Suntech Photovoltaic Technology Research Institute is established.
2009 | Using its Pluto Technology, Suntech breaks the world record for monocrystalline and polycrstalline silicon cell efficiency at 19.2% and17.2% respectively. In cooperation with UL, Suntech builds best-in-class PV module testing lab.
2011 | Suntech’s annual production capacity reaches 2.4 GW, with 2.1 GW modules shipped worldwide. This makes Suntech the biggest PV module supplier for two consecutive years.
2013 | Shunfeng International Clean Energy Limited, a HKSE listed renewable energy investment and Indipendent Power Producer company, announces its interest in acquiring Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd.
2014 | Suntech passes 25 million mark in number of solar modules shipped worldwide, totalling more than 8 GW. Shunfeng shareholders approve acquisition of Suntech, enabling Suntech to embark upon a period of expansion on solid financial footing with nearly zero debt
2016 | Suntech has shipped more than 10GW photovoltaic panels worldwide.
